Service- 5/5. Friendly, knowledgeable staff. Always checked that your party had enough water and sake. Ambiance- 7/5. Dark, private spaces w clear window separation, sunken tables. Be sure you have socks on and can slip in/out of your shoes. Ladies, easiest if you do not wear a skirt / dress to the restaurant. Food- 4/5. Wide variety. Wish there were more sashimi dishes to balance all the grill options. Always finish by sharing a bowl of ramen- though it tends to be too salty.

The vibe is gorgeous gem of a restaurant in Burlingame! Mei warmly greeted us. Vicky took our order. Octopus: Love the spicy sauce. Battered and deep fried. Wow! Squid: Lots of tentacles. Same great sauce! Saba. Mackerel done right! Rich flavor! Salmon. A definite staple. Hearty! Healthy! Wagyu. My fave! Beef Tongue. Delectably done! Pork Belly. Yum! Spicy Pork Belly. Yummier! Pork Cheek. Surprisingly good! First time I tried it! Chicken Thigh. Yes. YES. YES!!!!! Monk Fish Liver. Different. And the fave of the gorg IG gal who dragged me here. I was protesting, kicking and screaming...then wow! It's good! Foie gras of the sea! Arrigato gazaimasu, Mei & Vicky! It was such a splendid evening! Great ambiance, fab cusiine, and outstanding service! Would order everything again! Woohoo!

This is a great date night place that makes you feel like you're in Japan. I'm coming here for the atmosphere and delicious cold noodles. What are worth and notable are the cold noodles, beef tongue, and takowasada. The food isn't exceptional but being able to sit on the floor without shoes is super cool. The service was also great! Truly a gem in Burlingame.

Food: 5/5 Service: 4/5 Price: 4/5 Atmosphere: 5/5 TL;DR: Nice, dim traditional Japanese tatami-styled restaurant -- every table gets there own "private" booth where your table is surrounded by glass walls. You have to take off your shoes before entering where you'll sit on floor pillows & there's an divet in the floor for your legs. The servers are really nice and the skewers here are really really good -- but sometimes the food isn't consistent between visits. I do suggest trying to order everything you want in the beginning because when you place another order later, it does take quite a long time for it to come out. Love coming here with friends since you can order more things to try! Miso Soup: *5/5*: Classic miso soup, can't go wrong with it Cherry Tomato: *5/5*: The grilling made them really soft and super sweet -- each piece bursts with juices. Nice to eat in between meats to cut the meatiness. Wasn't sure what to expect but very very pleasantry surprised, will def order again King Oyster Mushroom & Zucchini: *4/5*: Grilled really well, both were soft and soaked up the sauces well Bacon Mochi: *5/5*: MUST TRY! One of our favorite items of the nice. The bacon has a nice char to it and its slightly crunchy but still soft. The mochi on the inside soaked up all the bacon fat and is super chewy. If you dip it with the togarashi, even better! Pork Belly: *5/5*: Best thing here! Super tender and soft, has a nice char & fattiness, and a light soy sauce taste. Even better with togarashi. Grilled Chicken Skin: *2/5*: This was way too overcooked. The skin was too crispy and over grilled so all you could really taste is char. Disappointing because last time we visited, the skin was really good so this time could just be a one off. Beef Tongue: *5/5*: Super tender and chewy with just enough sauce -- must order if you're a tan of tongue Chicken Heart: *3/5*: Overcooked so it was too charred and tough. All other skewers we got were really good - fun place to try a bunch of stuff with friends and have a drink :)

Highly recommend making a reservation for this restaurant as it's always packed. They have a wide variety of Japanese skewer options. The fried octopus was my favorite! Love the interior designs and the theme where you take off your shoes to sit down. Love how each table is separated by a glass wall, which blocks out the sounds from other tables.
