Found this spot on yelp. My friend made a reservation over the phone. It wasn't that busy for a Thursday evening. The fish tasted fresh. We mainly got nigiri. Also tried one of their daily special hand roll. It was uni and toro. Soooo good!! The service was a little slow but food was good.

Spicy Salmon hand roll Rainbow roll Dynamite roll Got these for take out from this local SM spot. All were super delicious and reasonably priced. Sad I didn't get to see a Mark Zuckerberg sighting (missed him by about 5 years it seems).

This was a great discovery of a new sushi place for me in the Bay Area. I typically go to ones in South Bay and happened to be in san mateo today. The other sushi place was only open for dinner that we came here based on Yelp review. Was a bit nervous, but the food was excellent. Rice was perfectly cooked and seasoned. Fish was really fresh, and the portion was very generous for what we typically get in res. Thank you!

We were originally gonna go eat at Sushi Sam's but was told that it was fully booked for the night. Boo. Stood on the sidewalk for 10 minutes Yelping for nearby sushi alternatives, found this spot, and decided to walk over. Upon arrival, I lowkey didn't have great expectations considering the edge-of-downtown location, not many customers inside for Saturday dinner, and a first-impression vibe of looking like just another generic Japanese restaurant frequented by those who eat Sriracha-dunked California rolls with forks and say arigato to their servers (sorry). Whatever, screw it, we were cold and hungry. We got seated and ordered the sushi combo and Aloha roll. Sounded good enough. What the.. or should I say.. NANI?! That sushi was LEGIT!!! I couldn't believe my eyes and had to run outside to make sure that I hadn't been teleported to Japan again!! The nigiri was thick sliced and everything tasted so fresh and flavorful - no fishiness or odd / watery textures at all. Beyond impressive. And the roll was perfectly proportioned and assembled flawlessly. Like seriously, wow. The sushi was simply incredible and not what we expected at all. On top of all that, the prices are super reasonable. All in all, amazing amazing value for what you get and will definitely be one of my newest top sushi spots!!!

My husband and I are regulars here. Why? Because the fish is so fresh here. We usually get nigiris here over anything else. They have an omakase that may not be on the menu but you may ask for it. We normally sit at the bar and the Chef chats with us as he works away. He works pretty hard. I love how he can serve you a little some then make others their sushi..then notices you're done with your first part of your order. Then he will make your next. Glad it doesn't all come out at once. The rest of the staff are very attentive. They have a variety of fish.. some from Japan. You can taste the freshness from it. And HUGE portions of it too. Overall my favorite spot in San Mateo

I've been to many Japanese restaurants in the peninsula and this spot is definitely our go to place for rolls and nigiri. You can customize your own omakase for much less than a fancy place. For nigiri, we always order these: Seared sake toro, oyster bombs, hamachi, scallops, salmon, For rolls, we like these: Double unagi Hokkaido roll Lion king Negitoro It's always the same chef (Steve) and the same waitresses when we go and service has always been very on point. If you order to go, stick with the rolls! The nigiri should be eaten at the restaurant. You can substitute the imitation crab for real crab for $3- worth it! Chef Steve is very accommodating. One of our friends doesn't like mayo and he was able to do a substitute for that! We eat here at least 2x a month and all of our friends love it here too. There's private Japanese style rooms where you take off your shoes for privacy with larger groups 6+.
